¨Chaos is a friend of mine¨
Bob Dylan
The Idea
At present, my art work is based on the balance between unknown and uncontrollable chaos and geometry, perspective, order, harmony, equilibrium and the beauty of color. The work explores the relationship between the light and form, colors and textures. I first internalize this fusion and re-codification in a playful process in order to generate a language of personal communication that is filled with aesthetic and dreamlike sensations. This enables me to express the fears and misgivings that humankind faces today. My works reflect the contrast of a chaotic and visually-contaminated world with the purity of natural beauty.
The Game
My day-to-day activity in the studio, and my work as an artist, put me in a state of alertness, and, simultaneously, of relaxation wherein everything flows as in an intimate exercise of pure enjoyment and anguish that results in the creation of an art object, be it a painting or a sculpture. The creative process in me is filled with worries and interests that affect me personally. From the very beginning, my work has been a tool for introspection that has allowed me to navigate between my emotions, my obsessions, and my internal conflicts, all of which end up transformed into art.
José Hidalgo. Chaos and order artist
Dystopia versus Utopia
José Hidalgo's work explores the relationship between space, pictorial support and color. The style and the formal worries of his painting and sculpture mix color, volumes and lines, with geometric shapes that are confused in each other and create an organization of the elements, not as a means of figuration, but as autonomous constructions. In his works of the last 3 years the artist has sought simplicity and abstraction as the ultimate expression of art by art, expelled all visible reality, and based his creation exclusively on the strength of color and geometry mixed with spontaneity.
His creations are abstract wonders that are surrendered in a playful way to visual music, all through explosions depicted with lines, shapes, dots and colors, forms that were born of his obsession with the balance of chaos and order, with the symbology of color, with geometry and spirituality. Hidalgo meticulously studies color, because for him, color is a power that directly influences the spirit, nothing is put at random, each action is controlled and systematic, in which each element is previously meditated in order to provoke a certain Reaction in the spectator, it links the harmony of the geometric figure with the transcendence of a specific space and time, its extensive production over the years reveals a versatile and eclectic artist.
Although it now uses concrete geometry as a fundamental support for its works, there is always some sublime figurative reference to the space and time of our society, its political and social terrain or the closed order in which we live. Its cold and rectilinear forms are the plastic expression of our complex urban landscape: rectangular and pointed cells, prisons, diagrams, isolated organisms. We also refer to our social environment its characteristic texture of painting in its wild and gestural form, making maximum expressive use of colors, thus establishing affiliations with Pop art, fauves, digital information and mass culture
These works reflect the externalization of control and freedom through the experiential impulse of the artist who drags his demons from the Cuba that lived, hence his inheritance of the German Expressionists, is a kind of synthesis tinged with lyricism, spirituality and a Deep fascination with nature and its forms. For Hidalgo Art has become an invocation to the spirit, so its expression is authentic.
